The ongoing issues with the Milton Road library continue to rumble on. We understand from the new regime at the County Council that it has not been possible to pause the sale of the building by This Land Ltd. At a meeting of the North Area Action Committee on 2 September, councillors confirmed that sale negotiations were still going ahead, and had not yet been completed, notwithstanding the 'SOLD' flag against it on This Land's website.
However we do cautiously welcome the fact that councillors have been able to negotiate an extension to the existing lease, which had been due to expire in 2044. The library will now be able to remain in the building at least until 2064, with the option to extend the lease by a further 15 years until 2079. Whilst this is not a permanent solution, it does represent a significant improvement to the situation.
