Speedwatch

Thanks to Riki McDonald, Speedwatch has been active in Orchard Avenue with several Winter ‘24 and Spring ’25 sessions.  Riki sends her thanks to all those who have volunteered and observes that the proportion speeding in Orchard Avenue has dropped to 10% from an initial figure of 28% back in 2016.  So, are drivers becoming more considerate?Riki visited County Police HQ in March and determined that there are 296 Speedwatches in this county, run by 10 volunteer police officers.  New devices have emerged that collect speeding data 24/7 but the price for each device would be in the order of £500 which would have to be funded locally.  Investigations continue and the County Police will report back any recommendations.

A common question about Speedwatch is “can you monitor traffic in both directions?”.  It turns out that we can indeed, so perhaps two-way monitoring will be tried next time.
