A brief history of the estate

Did you know that the name of our estate is derived from a large Victorian house, Hurst, which once stood on the corner of Hurst Park Avenue and Milton Road, where Dalegarth is now? Or that a windmill was still situated half way up Hurst Park Avenue after much of the estate was built? Or that there was a tennis racquet factory in Mulberry Close?

Most of the estate was built between the wars, starting with Leys Road and Highworth Avenue in the 1910s and 20s, though Mulberry Close was developed much later, in the sixties.

Two of our neighbours, Jim Smith and Rachel Aucott have been researching the history of the estate, and have created their own website sharing their finds, and there's a wealth of information on the Capturing Cambridge website too.
