RPS: where are we now

The background to the RPS is summarised in our latest update on the Parking page of our website. Works (marking out parking bays and implementing signage) are due to take place during Summer 2025 and a six-month review will follow. Many of our concerns about the proposed scheme have not, so far, been addressed, as follows:

  • The excessive number of signposts proposed: about 96 in total: one for every two parking spaces.  We have suggested alternatives such as signs at road junctions, signs on lamp-posts, fewer signs, and signs on wall and fences as per Pretoria Road, (see photo). Jocelynne Scutt has taken up this issue and we await the outcome.

  • A lack of short-term parking for shops.

  • Dangerously poor visibility at Leys Road/ Arbury Road junction.

  • Errors in the out-of-date plans on Council websites showing parking spaces in front of driveways.

If you have any views you would like to express about the RPS, contact us or your Councillors.
